Sinner and Kostyuk sweep Madrid in dominant week

By the Mob Tennis team

Jannik Sinner and Marta Kostyuk both claimed 2026 Madrid crowns this week in commanding fashion. On the ATP side, Sinner dismissed Alexander Zverev 6–1 6–2 to secure the 1000-level title, delivering a clinical performance on clay that left little margin for error. On the WTA side, Kostyuk outlasted Mirra Andreeva 6–3 7–5 in a tighter affair to claim her own Madrid crown. The tournament proved a showcase for upsets and vulnerabilities among the seeded elite. D. Prizmic, ranked outside the top 70, upset sixth-seeded Ben Shelton in the round of 64, while Stefanos Tsitsipas—competing at a ranking of 82—dispatched tenth-ranked Alexander Bublik. The men's draw also saw V. Kopriva eliminate thirteenth-seeded Andrey Rublev, adding to a week of unexpected results. On the women's side, seventh-seeded Elina Svitolina fell to Anna Bondar in the 64, and ninth-ranked Victoria Mboko lost to C. McNally. Madrid's clay-court stage proved treacherous for top seeds but rewarding for those who could capitalize on the shifting conditions. The tour moves into its next phase following a reshuffle of rankings and confidence heading into the European clay swing.
